About Lucas

Postdoctoral researcher, MD, PhD

After completing my medical studies in Universitat de Barcelona I decided to reorient my career towards research rather than medical practice. After pondering many options, and driven by an unscratched itch for numbers, I pursued a master's in bioinformatics in Universitat Pompeu Fabra. After graduating, I joined the Malaria Epigenetics Lab in ISGlobal for my PhD, where I studied the epigenetic regulation of transcriptional variation in the world’s most deadly parasite. In 2023 I defended my thesis, my first son was born and I joined the Computational Immunogenomics Group at VHIO - quite a year for me!

Here at the group, my main project consists on unraveling the implications of HLA-II malignant expression in tumor evolution and treatment response, using machine learning approaches.

Beyond research, I’m a big fan of boardgames and speculative science-fiction, but I’d never say no to a cold beer or a nice hike!
