About Manuel
Postdoctoral researcher, MD, PhD
After completing my BSc in Dentistry in Peru, I became interested in applying scientific approaches to address fundamental questions about cancer and congenital conditions. Thus, I moved to Brazil to pursue an MSc (2015) and PhD (2017), both in Oral Biology, under the supervision of Prof. Sergio Line (Unicamp, Brazil). I focused my research on DNA and RNA secondary structures as regulatory elements of gene expression and epigenetic patterns. After my PhD, I joined the Aziz Aboobaker group at the University of Oxford as a Postdoctoral fellow. The focus of my research was to understand the interplay between transcriptional regulation, maternal to zygotic transition and genome wide methylation during early animal embryogenesis.
Since January 2024, I have been working as a Postdoctoral researcher at VHIO at the Computational Immunogenomics Group. During this period, I have analyzed large-scale genomic datasets to better understand the interplay between genomic and transcriptomic determinants in primary and metastatic tumors.
In my spare time I enjoy playing volleyball at Barcelona beaches. I also love dancing, especially latin music like salsa and merengue. As a Peruvian person, I really like cooking, eating and talking about food while eating.
